front cover

(2023) 28 pages, 8.5"x5.5", full color with some black & white (ink, graphite, watercolor, and wax pencil art, plus digital coloring)

This weird fan-art project is what happened when I looked at the covers of random 20th-century US comics (mostly found at thrift stores), adored them, and then drew my own riffs on those cover scenes without any of the constraints of time or format or medium or consistency or taste or professionalism that they originally had, resulting in 13 illustrations that are alternately whimsical, mysterious, and lurid. They're accompanied by samples of the originals and some text commentary by me.
