Movies I Saw at Frameline 50
A bunch of drawings/words/comics about the 9 feature films and 13 shorts that I watched in June at the 50th annual San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival—some new, some older classics of queer cinema, all visually and emotionally inspiring for me. These are my little tributes to the movies, notes about what they made me think of, and a couple of stories about the festival experience.
I posted first drafts of the drawings on Instagram during the festival, but I've reworked a lot of the art and lettering for the print version, and also added three bonus pages that weren't online.
The movies were: Lady Champagne (2026), Un Chant d'Amour (1950), Flaming Creatures (1963), Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story (1987), Desert Hearts (1985), Black Burns Fast (2025), Bound (1996), Score (1973), Caravaggio (1986), En el Camino (2025), Something You Should Know About Me (2026), Hunky Jesus (2026), and a collection of erotic shorts from 1989-2005. I also wrote about most of these on Letterboxd.
